Jeffrey Sachs, Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the Sustainable Development Goals, Mark Weisbrot, Co-Director of CEPR, and Nancy Alexander, Director of the Global Economic Governance Program at the Heinrich Böll Stiftung North America, discuss “The Scorecard on Development, 1960–2016” and the latest global development trends and their impact on poverty and economic progress throughout the world. Deborah James, CEPR's Director of International Programs, moderates.
CEPR’s latest “Scorecard on Development” looks at data for 191
countries on economic growth and social indicators over the last
fifty-six years to consider how most of the world’s countries have
emerged from the long period of reduced economic and social progress
that characterized the last two decades of the twentieth century. The
panelists will discuss possible reasons for the 21st century rebound,
its potential sustainability, and implications for economic policy.
